I’d recommend reading it. It’s only 16 pages; it’s very informative on the productivity - age relationship and concludes that marriage is a blunder for working males. Great read overall.

Kanazawa suggested that this is due to testosterone (T) and it seems science on this has been done in the meanwhile which confirms that. T concentrations are highest in males who compete because T modulates the value of the goal of reaching higher social status (presence of T makes high status more valuable). A single-dose T administration causes men to regard status goods as more valuable:

The implications of T are then highly context dependent: A villain will find higher status by committing crime or by being aggressive, so he will be more aggressive and commit crimes. A genius will find higher status by producing good science, so he will spend more time on that, calmly sitting at his desk.

As soon as males have children, testosterone drops steeply, presumably to make males care for their offspring instead of investing into higher social status and better opportunities to procreate.

The Age / Genius correlation seems a little more dubious to me...I think it is human nature once you reach some form of success in your early 20s/30s you kind of want to relax, you feel a sense of accomplishment, have built up a nest-egg don't feel the need to push as hard.

It is after all, a correlation not a causation.
