It's all about the emotional roller coaster. Also the fantasy about being able to follow her unbridled hypergamy and watch the tidal wave of drama that unfurls from it.

In real life, of course, she'd have married for the stability and boned Jack on the side.

It gives them a sense of power over rich men (i.e. their own hypergamy). When you get rich, they’ll do this just to make you feel like shit.

One other thing. The fantasy is not so much her rejection, but his reaction. Here’s a rich guy that goes totally insane because he can’t have this one thot. If he was just like, “meh”, then it wouldn’t be a story at all.

Just watched the clip. The rich dude gets stuck on the titanic because he chases after her. So they like the idea that he was so jealous he’d kill himself. Then of course the other dude kills himself for her too. The fantasy is the dudes killing themselves for her.
