It's ironic, because this is about the medical field.

In that field it was has been observed that female medical students will work much less hours than male students in average, also more often quitting earlier or not even beginning at all.

That is all contributing to the shortage of doctors.

Because of that discriminating against women would actually significantly **increase** the potential talent/output, not decrease it, if you have a limited amount of slots to fill.

Of course discrimination based on gender that is still unfair non the less. Gender statistics do not apply to individuals.

Instead find a way to filter out people that will not commit to their profession as much by using tests and questionnaires, not by looking at their gender. This will also result in many non-serious female (and a couple male) applicants/students to not consume precious teaching resources - but his way you avoid the collateral damage.

If we take this argument, imagine the incalculable loss we have experienced now that we are coming onto the third generation of men that have been unfairly marked and alienated from formal education by their female teachers. The potential we are squandering by disqualifying more competent men from positions in STEM by only accepting female applicants.
