oh boy, oh boy, I have a story to tell about this (four actually)
I go to a prestigious college for electrical engineering but my course is comp science/software engineering. And compared to all other courses we have the highest percentage of girls(35%) and they all suck at what they are supposed to be doing.
1)Last semester a "friend " of mine(girl A) was caught plagiarizing coding assignments on two occasions and got the first strike before expulsion and ban from taking the exams in the first sitting. And she had the audacity to appeal the ban because "she just copied a part of it".
Also, all the bans are public but instead of names student ID numbers are put along the violation, but those IDs can be looked up easily, so I went through all the names and out of 15 bans(WTF are these people wasting time and money when they are cheating in Intro to programming ) 9 bans were were given to girls.
2)We have homework assignments for a number of classes but we have to showcase them and to modify them in person in front of TAs (students of the third and fourth year), so after a couple of assignments by accident I saw the results of my other "friend"(girls B) and she had ?better marks than me? but didn't pass intro to programming 1. And up until that point, we didn't have the same schedule for assignment showcase but the first time we did everything was clear. She would dress like a slut and TA would hower around her and do her modifications for her(on top of the fact that most of her assignments were not done by her) whereas I did it on my own.
3)Shortly after enrolment, we have received a message on my mailing list about "Women in code" and the project only for women. Not even a minute after the message was sent, another was sent "We are sorry to announce that by law we have to include men, , and all the women who are distressed by this can contact us for counseling " It became a running joke between me and my friends from high school.
4)The final story is about how idiots who went into sociology and related non-engineering fields vandalized statues of notable men(scientists, politicians, writers..) around the city. They hung the apron on the statue of Nicola Tesla in front of my college which said: "science is female"(technically the noun is female in my language) and the media framed it as a victory for equality???
These are just a few things that happened in the last 6 months.
