I had a discussion with an girl I know that happened to have posted that 'men should not make laws about women's bodies' on her Instagram. She said that it is ethically and morally wrong that only men govern the laws etc regarding abortion. After telling her about Governor Kay Ivey, a woman who signed the Alabama bill, she said "one woman doesn't represent all women". I thought okay, yeah I can understand that, but why is it that only 48% of women are pro choice. Looking at pro life rallies, more women attend than men. She replied yeah but women aren't represented enough in politics so it sways popular opinion. Yeah okay, its plausible, but why don't more women get into politics then? Because they wouldn't get voted in she replied. But in states like Alabama and Kentucky, women are the majority, which are 2 of the recent states to sign the abortion laws. (Nearly all states in the US have a female majority but these are just examples) So if they wouldn't get voted in, that's because women wouldn't vote them in. "But they tried but people don't think its a position for a woman, they're prejudiced." she continued, but again, women are the majority in these states, it's women choosing not to get into politics, it's not prejudice. And if that was true, why are there hardly any female candidates for most government positions? Surely, if women needed more representation, they would at least try? Some more arguing later, we got to other problems, like women's prison sentences being shorter etc, with some of her bullshit excuses. "It doesn't matter, the men shouldn't have committed the crime and they wouldn't be in prison!" To which I replied "Women shouldn't get pregnant then!" "That's not the same, they could be raped" yeah, and men can be falsely acused of rape and have their lives ruined, but that doesn't matter does it? "Well I would never do that, it's not my problem". "Then why should the men in power care about women's problems?" Left on read. It just angers me why they think that only their problems matter.
