I'm older, in my fifties. I have trained at a gym for several years, and gotten to know the staff, one of who is in her early twenties, friendlyish, very pretty and really stupid. I know this because she asked me to help her with some of her work, and she is really, really dim. She's in college to become a physical education teacher, and the work is a challenge for her. Her primary interests seem to be working out, chasing Chads and so on.

So, as an experiment, I told her that I was thinking of arranging a date with a friend of mine who was about her age and visiting. This kid, who is real, is going into his junior year of college, and studying engineering. And I showed her his picture. He's real by the way, and a great person. Thoughtful, kind, decent, really smart -- a major good guy. And a real catch.

And this young woman could not reject him fast enough. He's pretty good-looking, also, and 6'2" or so, so it wasn't that. It's just that what she wants is Chad. And from thirty years further down the road, I'm thinking "You live in this dinky little California town, with your parents. Your big ambition is to be a gym teacher. You post stuff on Instagram like bikini pictures, and you bitch to me, the older guy, about your dating life. And someone who's way better than you deserve, and a possible ticket out of all this, is an instant nonstarter because he's not Chad." Test failed. Suspicions confirmed. AWALT. Unreal.
