Here's the math. After taxes she is left with $-1371.50, I've done the math below. You cannot convince me living in LA on 55k is a good idea or even possible. I'm going to lay the actual math down. This video left out federal and income tax, let's start there. Income tax in Los Angeles is 9.2% and Federal Income Tax for a SINGLE person who makes between $38,700 and $82,500 is 22% for a total of 31.2%. $55,000 x 31.2% = $17,160 which puts her at $37,840. Now add her 401k contributions $333 x 12 months = $3996 annually which leaves her with a spendable income of $33,844 annually. Now let's add her monthly expenses. Her rent is $1125 a month x 12 months = $13,500 annually, which leaves her with $20,344. Food is $424 x 12 months = $5088 which puts us at $15,256. Car insurance is $335 x 12 months = $4,020 which puts us at $11,236. Okay we ate getting tight and tight is not right in this situation. Miscellaneous is $290 x 12 months = $3,480 which puts us at $7,756. Utilities are also $290 a month, $3,480 a year, $7,756 - $3,480 = $4,276. Her car is $70 dollars a month x 12 months = $840, which leaves us with $3,436. Last but not least her freelance business is $50 x 12 months = $600 which leaves us with $2,836. Social security is 6.2% and Medicare is 1.45% which equal 7.65%. $55,000 x 7.65% is $4207.50 which leaves her with -1371.50. This woman is left in the negative after all is said and done.
