If there are 400,000 people paying and receiving alimony, then how many couples are divorced? I'm always wary of cherry-picked statistics that do not show the full picture.

400,000 seems very low to me. If 97% of that is men, that's 388,000 men paying alimony. I'm not trying to downplay the plight, but my young naive mind always thought it was more than that.

Questions:

97% of alimony paid by men. How many alimony payers in total; is it really 400,000?

85% (or so) paying child support? How many paying in total?

If for example, the number of divorced men is say, 1 million in a given year, and 388,000 of those pay alimony and 600,000 pay child support, then one can get a clearer look at the entire picture. You know what I mean? 97% of nothing, or 85% of some random number, loses a bit of its weight in meaning.

Been doing some research (Google) and I cannot find anything that really clears this up.

TL;DR - I apologize, my thoughts are very scattered but I hope you get where I am trying to go with this. Just asking (begging) for sources with more precise figures (even on specific sample sizes) on these kind of stats; other than just percentages of course. I barely know anything about statistics, so I'm not even sure if what I'm asking for is doable.
