Hey, just throwing this out there, the title is a bit misleading, sort of implies condoms have an 18% failure rate in general, saying almost 1/5 condoms manufactured are defective and fail in use. What the chart actually states is that 18% of women that use condoms as a primary form of birth control throughout a year will become pregnant. This is a different sort of number, as if you do something that has a risk of an unlikely outcome frequently enough, it becomes likely that the unlikely will occur. Consequently you can have a condom that has a high reliability on a "per bang" basis, however, if you bang enough, you will still observe failures in the population as a whole. In fact, if you do a bit of math, you can reasonably estimate that you can have that pregnancy rate if only 1/99 condoms fail in use (or even less because this only considers sex during time periods that could cause pregnancy). These numbers are estimates, however they illustrate how this statistic can inflate the perceived risk associated with a very reliable form of contraception.

So to do a bit of math and define some variables:

P = % of women who use condoms each year who become pregnant
n = # of times per year of potential pregnancy causing sex
f = probability of condom failure

Our equation is: P = n * f

Per the CDC Chart, P = 0.18. Lets say the women in the population have sex 24 times a year where they are at risk of becoming pregnant (twice per cycle, seems reasonable, probably a lot of variability here). So, 0.18 = 24 * f, solve for "f", f = 0.0075. That indicates that you can have 18% of women becoming pregnant even if condoms are over 99% reliable. The real take away is more like, condoms are quite reliable, however people bang a lot, and also lots of people don't use condoms properly. You can theoretically wear a condom that only fails once every hundred times you have sex with a fertile women and still have this statistic.

(Full disclosure, I am a certified cuck/soyboy/democrat/betabux just lurking on this subreddit, but it seems a good portion of you guys still are banging women to some extent even if you are GYOW, and if you are concerned about pregnancy and STIs you should probably be wearing condoms. And just because I don't agree with your world view, I do not think you should exposed to misinformation that may be harmful to you health, and I would admit that GYOW and not having sex is by definition the best way to avoid pregnancy and STIs so, keeping doing that if it is working for you. In fact, this kind of statistics is not reliable. There is no way to get the data. No one count how many sex they had.

Also, the correct use of condom is not guaranteed. Some people use condom in the middle of sex, not at the beginning.

While some are too drunk to remember what happened.

But if a condom is used correctly without breakage, it can prevent pregnancy and most STD.
