This looks like a movie to enforce the myth that men who like sex are obviously missing something in life and it takes a woman to make him happy.

gotta give it to him though. he writes a movie about a sex addict and casts Scarlett Johansson as the female lead. good on him.

You need to understand that you are not the target audience for this movie. Despite what it looks like, this is a movie aimed at women.

"Alpha" male, shown to be doing Alpha shit (gets their panties wet)
He meets a woman who makes him want to give up his alpha ways, and change himself for her and become a Beta (I can tame him!)
Throw in a healthy dose of male sexuality shaming (OMG he likes porn! Gross !)
Man is reduced to beta status, and changes himself to win the approval of the woman. Gives up all his Alpha ways, and completely bows down to the power of "THE ONE TRUE VAG!"

Roll credits.

This trope is a stable of pretty much every Hollywood movie. Even the movies supposedly aimed at men (Look at Tony Stark in the iron man series)

While Tony and Pepper have something I would class as a healthy relationship (by Hollywood standards), the "Alpha transformed" trope is pretty much everywhere.

My Best Friend's Girl started out fantastic as well. I especially liked the scene in the beginning when he's talking to the hottie and her nottie friend tries to cockblock. It was pure gold. Then the whole thing went sideways when the made the character turn into a beta simp. Same thing happened with Hitch. Hollywood loves their blue pill endings.

So is his addiction to porn the crux of the movie?

The role of porn in a man's life would be an interesting discussion for TBP. It does look like a blue pill movie, but that doesn't mean porn is good for the red pill.
