I actually just finished a book called "The philosophy of love." It was a very interesting read and essentially it said that romantic love is indeed a mental illness as it seeks to "control" another and not "respect" their autonomy. Love in all respects is a mental illness. It's very selfish but then again there are many different types of love and we must be able to differentiate between the various types. The problem is that today's society has put everything under romantic love which is false. So, in that respect it is a mental illness.
