Think about it.

We're taught in Church that we are supposed to blindly devote ourselves to God, have faith that he loves us, and just be okay with getting nothing real in return outside of misery.

While at the same time, we're told to devote ourselves to our wives, love them unconditionally and just have faith that they reciprocate those feelings, and get nothing out of it but misery.
