If someone had a baby in the US, owed child support, and fled to a random remote place like a caribbean island or somewhere in south america, would someone or something go after you to collect said child support?

I am sure there are many who have done this.

As someone has pointed out, they can revoke your passport. I am sure they will for some people just to scare the rest.

HOWEVER, if you check on the ex-pat (that's what the are called) forums, there are no reports of this.

You can research it more on those forums.

I think you would be more successful if you did it in secret. If you told your family you are moving to another state, and keep everything secret, they (ex and CS) would not know where to look for you.

I think there are books on how to drop out.

The MUCH bigger problem is how to earn a living overseas. Unless you have an internet (programing) job, its hard. Some are on disability.

If you owe back child support they revoke your passport. You won't be leaving the US.

If you leave, don't plan on coming back.
Your career will be affected.

Caribbean and South America are not safe for US citizens, they are all covered by extradition treaties.

You'd have to keep up the charade of compliance then leave in secret. Don't go anywhere where there's extradition. Keep a passport at the ready before any divorce/breakup proceedings. Probably apply to jobs before you leave and have something lined up. Otherwise some cash/savings.

Or just go monk and not deal with all that lol.

I've seen one or two articles about men successfully fleeing to another country without an extradition treaty with their home country.

As far as I'm aware, only Argentina doesn't extridite. But I haven't looked into it recently. However in getting there you will leave an easily followed trail unless you've got your own boat and sail down. You also would want to look into their immigration law.

Get a dual citizenship to a non-extradition country. Countries not part of the treaty don't follow as many international laws which includes child support.

Some countries recognize child support orders from the United States. In general, native american reservations do not.

If you move from one jurisdiction to another (in general, child support is managed at the county level), then you have a 6 month to 1 year delay in having them take child support from your paycheck. Child support is extremely slow, and different jurisdictions have different punishments they can inflict for non-payment. For some, suspending your driver's license is as far as they'll go, for others, jail time.
