Another Chinese word 奸 means basically the same thing. They both got the woman character. 干 alone in this context just means"to do"but when you add the woman character, it means a different thing entirely. Ancient people knew their stuff, interesting isn't it?

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't all three of those the character for women? So women women women is evil? Sounds about right.
