Maybe it's the people I hang around with (some married with kids, some single and looking, some more independent). Why does GYOW necessarily have to involve some kind of feeling of segregation from society? I'm trying to figure out what is actually causing this feeling for some men, because I've seen it mentioned on more than a few occasions and is clearly the cause of frustration.

The way I see it, if there's no gun against your head, you're good. If you're confident with what you want in life, people generally read that loud and clear. I should add that I'm a northern Brit so attitudes might be slightly different than in the States and other parts of the world. But our cultures aren't really all that different. From my experience (and I'm no hermit), there is not one single person I could say was hostile or judgemental of my not having children or wanting to get married. This was confirmed the other day when I spoke to a fellow band member's wife - she asked if I was married or had kids, innocently enough. I said no and made some joke about the urgency with which I responded to the question. She said "you're your own man, that's cool". The subject was changed as quick as that and we had a good night talking about more interesting stuff.

I suspect that if you genuinely feel some kind of ostracisation from society because of MGTOW then you are surrounding yourself with the wrong people. Ditch the judgemental idiots and go some place where people are more (dare I say, using the British definition of the word) liberal about life choices. There are decent people out there, both married and not, who judge you based on more than whether you are married or have kids.
