Every story I've seen cites a stat to the effect that 75 percent of breast implants are cosmetic, and the rest are reconstructive.
Wait, how are the reconstructive breast implants NOT ALSO COSMETIC? It's not like those boobs are functional afterwards!
So what we're looking at here is surgery that is 100 percent for vanity. And we're practically having congressional hearings about this.
"Oh, but you wouldn't understand. If you lost something that was fundamental to your identity and made you look weird without it, you could empathize."
Oh. So, like... FUCKING HAIR? Anyone see any calls for the FDA to start working on that? Nah, cause it's generally a man problem. We either ignore it, or fix it out of our own pocket.
Finally, the stats. 400,000 of these a year. They're discussing 465 cancer cases, and bringing up implants from as long as 25 years ago in the discussion. So, 12,000,000 breast implants. So you have a 0.003875 % chance, about 1 in 25,000, of this affecting the patient. All this coverage is talking about "oh, if only I had known the risks, I wouldn't have gotten them" FUCK OFF. How many women do you think would decline having breasts when warned there was a 1 in 25,000 chance they would increase their cancer risk?
Not DIE of breast cancer, just get it. I imagine the fatality rate is neither zero or one hundred, but some surviving makes the odds even extreme.
