Edit: full disclosure. There is failure in my reply. I met my woman in the early 90s. I'm not sure if it could work that way any more realistically, technically it could but even rarer.

But what I have noticed is that a specific kind of girl who is very feminine and sweet (unusually so) ends up with a guy for years and never breaks up.

You are going to be burnt alive for saying that, however there is some truth in this, especially (exclusively?) if they are virgins. The problem is she can change and be corrupted by society as time goes on, but sometimes won't, or will have a really long shelf life before she does. In fact my current long time LTR is one for the most part. However, I'll never assume we'll last till death (but we might) and I'll always assume 'the gun is loaded'. The important thing for me is I have a pre-made logistically tight plan to get over her when (if) that day comes.

You sure you're not just massively overthinking this? You said you're a decent looking guy right? I don't think it's too unreasonable that a girl maybe just thought you looked cute. And it sounds like you were just a little bit shy. But that's fine. This girl(s) was probably nervous too. Just get to know her of them if you like her too. If you feel nervous that's natural but it's always less scary after you've done something. And what do you have to lose?

Tl;dr - you seem super hung up on the most irrelevant details.
