What the research I was referencing showed is that women look to society for their validation, whereas men judge it based on their own internal self perception. This is why we view a man who constantly posts pictures and seeks attention as acting feminine. This is why a man who feels like he has slept with a lot of women will not care if he gets rejected, because internally he already feels satisfied and doesn't care about external validation. Whereas a women can have 1 million men after her but will still not be satisfied until she has the approval of the one man who disregards her. Women constantly seek more and more societal approval. It's like a man who internally conquers a goal, but now isn't satisfied until he hits another.

In terms of valuing oneself, a man's self value is based on how he sees himself so its constantly up and down. Women on the other hand, it will rise an fall based on how society sees them. So in our materialistic society that worships the young and beautiful, a women will feel on top of the world in her early years. Then as she gets completely disregarded as she ages, she will feel increasingly depressed. This is why women feel more body shamed and pressured than ever, it's because our society is only giving them validation through their youth. Whereas when our society valued motherhood, she was validated for life.
