It's basically the most overused thing to discredit our existence so much so that it became a trope/meme. We like to ask each other who hurt you as a joke, because we as a community know being hurt doesn't have to be a precursor or a prodominant reason for going your own way.

It's an attempt to invalidate arguments by claiming you had a bad experience and are therefore biased. It might be appropriate if they'd address the arguments first, but that rarely happens. I hope that's what your were asking. I don't see it myself because I don't engage in those kinds of conversations, because they usually go like that. Waste of time.

For most of us no one "hurt us", we just learned by observation.

As out-of-the box thinkers, we have above average intelligence thus we need not to experience it in order to understand it. That is to say we are taking preventative measures to avoid an high probably for an hurtful position (a statistical reality nowadays).

I take solace in the thought that this will be buried and forgotten. Nitimur in vetitum. Also, this is not written for the OP, so much as it was written for my own amusement and posterity.

Imagine that you might have some reasonable objections to romantic or socio-political entanglements. For instance, you can watch your father get screwed in divorce court, or maybe you can see destruction from a distance (or maybe you stuck your hand in the fire to learn how it felt). Regardless, when you articulate your misgivings about the status quo people will not understand why you're making your arguments in the first place. It may make people VERY uncomfortable when you question shibboleths of what is acceptable or good. They might react defensively and reflexively. They might even be entirely dismissive because your questioning is an existential threat to their way of life, and it's psychologically easier to be dismissive of what is deemed radical iconoclasm.

People have a sense of on what side their toast is buttered, so to speak. On some level people see what's at stake. It's like how no one really wants to think about what would happen if there was a widespread strike of farmers worldwide. It's not a pleasant thought to imagine in detail what would happen if you couldn't get all your calories one year and people started starving. Theoretically, groups of people who you don't know can, through act or inaction, drastically impact your way of life. But people don't think about it.

The more men opt-out of society, the more it starts to crumble. Society requires energy input, and constant maintenance. Men use their limited time alive on earth putting thought and effort into the system, and the system doesn't exist without masculine engagement on some level. And typically it's all behind the scenes work, keeping the plumbing from backing up, so to speak, and doing all the things we don't see.

BarBarossaaaa (an early Youtube MGTOW) said that civilization was powered by orgasm. To some degree, he's right - male desires, particularly for women - power civilization. Without that power, channeled properly, we resort back to a state of nature. And humans are not particularly very good in a state of nature (no thick hide, no sharp claws, relatively slow, etc.). Our position at the top of the food chain exists because of things like tool making, reasoning, planning, technology, calculation, coordination, social hierarchy/trust/cooperation, martial/hunting skill. We are fairly shit at survival without a modicum of civilization.

So you tell someone you don't trust the system on one of the most fundamental precepts, what do you think is going to be their reaction? I would be surprised if I were met with anything but incredulity and a dismissive attitude. (assuming I still thought there was merit in telling people outside of MGTOW about my reasons for opting out)

Most people's typical first reaction when you vent about the breakdown in the fabric of society (with particular regard toward male/female relations) is, "who hurt you?".

The question is an attempt to redirect and focus the problem onto relationship/emotional management, particularly to point out a flaw in the man himself. He is defective - he was injured.

It is tantamount to them saying, "instead of looking at the systematic problems you may have in the face of the current system, look at your own problems. Don't fuck with the institution of male sacrifice."

We stand on the blood of our father's father's and their father's before them... and mothers... in point of fact, the sexual-social dynamic of our species is inherent to our very existence. You fuck with that, and you are a fucking existential threat... At that point, you might as well have leprosy and be quarantined (with the utmost disgust).

MGTOW is dangerous knowledge, at its root. Remove the memes, and the hyperbole, and what you have left is something that's radioactive: men making a choice.

Man has been, for all of time, a kind of slave to mother nature. For millennia we've competed as the half of the species with excess gametes. As a consequence of the accidents of birth, men are the more disposable sex. Mother nature herself deigns that more males are born, yet fewer males make it to maturity and old age (I think the ratio ranges anywhere from 102:100 to 108:100 of males:females at birth depending on the population). Most men have developed a slave morality as a consequence of ages of selection: adopting a "women and children first" instinct. Women and children are never put into front line combat cannon fodder roles. If you disagree that man has been a kind of slave to human nature (particularly mother nature), then I cannot convince you (nor could I convince you that a nature exists). Regardless, man has cultivated strength, truth, loyalty, obedience to his caste, skill in labor, and other traits which make for good slaves (intelligence is a trait that I wonder about; theoretically, you don't want slaves so stupid that you have to micromanage everything [you want them with some intelligence], but you also want slaves that defer to your "wisdom and judgement". And the thought that comes to mind is that a fertile, beautiful woman tends to drop the average IQ of a room of men by 10 points, and that sex-talk sounds less like poetry and more like the grunting of apes and retards... Certainly it's a good trick to have a man who is simultaneously intelligent and retarded - compelled to think but not compelled to think himself out of mating).

At some point, however, the slaves revolt, or take over like Janissary ministers, or they form an amalgamation through gradual mingling after their masters become weak through complacency. Using the power dynamic of time immemorial, I suppose that the amalgamation takes the form of the Trans Community, perhaps the Janissaries are the Soy Boys or the male feminists like Weinstein, and maybe MGTOW is some flavor of revolt. Regardless, the proportionality of goodwill between the sexes is evidenced by the proportion of birth rates, divorce rates, and likelihood of defecting (the defectiveness of cheating and hookup culture). Whatever metric you want to use, the trend appear to be one of decline.

And that's not something people want to think about.

It's a lot easier just to call someone bitter in some oblique way, and be an armchair psychologist who knows exactly what's wrong and boil it down to "who hurt you?"

I feel my own human nature to be intellectually lazy, and less than empathetic because I want to end this response right now...

I mean... it's uncomfortable... redressing grievances between the sexes... I feel tired just thinking about it.

Think about what it means: we would have to transvaluate the entire foundation of the social contract even to have a meaningful sense of what is an equitable resolution. The mental calculus would be a multi-year philosophical project (and probably too big for one person to undertake alone, let alone fully comprehend in all but broad brush strokes). It would, necessarily, be less disruptive to accept the status quo: men keep doing what you're doing, women keep enjoying the birth control pill, alimony, child support, no fault divorce, political and economic freedoms, modern technology and convenience, etc.

... But you see, things have changed.

Things are not going to go back. It's impossible to return to the past. The past has passed.

The deal has changed. Men will need to renegotiate. But women aren't going to give up the advantages of the past few centuries, and no rational actor would - no one advocates that they should get an existentially worse deal without good motivation to do so. Change to the sexual dynamic will come, but only out of necessity, and not of choosing.

I suspect that birth rates will continue to trend downward, and demographics will necessarily age. I think the demographic winter is the horror that no one wants to face. The movie Children of Men does some of the best world-building for the implications of a demographic winter, but it's going to look different, and maybe not as bleak, I hope. But my hope is my own turning away from the truth.

Regardless... This is in the works, and it has a slow-ish fuse. I don't need to fix the widening gulf between the sexes in one night (ha, but perhaps that's how it's done, wink)... The inertia of the system is like a tidal wave. MGTOW are just a little ahead of the curve. As such, we get a little more say, and have a few more choices than most people... but... MGTOW is growing... and that tidal wave is coming perhaps sooner than we'd like to think.

Interesting times.

People don't have to be aware of what they are doing in order to say, "who hurt you?" dismissively. They don't have to think of any greater context. People can feel threatened and resort to reciting a script in order to feel superior and to feel like they're in control of the situation. How easy it would be if you could dismiss whatever you wanted with a wave of your hand...

I look forward the the next few decades. I just hope that I get to see how everything plays out and whatever comes after.
