They definitely have an ulterior motive for killing off Daniel Craig/Bond. They are going to do something to screw up the Bond image.

Have a look at the elevator scene, he isn't emotionless, he feels fear but overcomes it to do what has to be done and keeps a clear head for the woman he is with
