I'm not afraid to say games made me a better person and school was a complete waste of time.

The hand-eye coordination thing is the benefit that gets talked about the most. Gaming in general (table top games included, here) also improve logical and spacial reasoning, problem solving, concentration, strategic thinking, imagination, and arithmetical skills.

And what do you do for a living now?

Schools vary. Education however is critical. You want to learn life through hard knocks and common sense alone? Fine and dandy. But you'll never be a deep person. You'll never have the benefit of learning from history and the perspective of countless others, men much smarter than you who discovered wonders.

School matters. Video games are an entertainment at best and a distraction at worst. An interactive movie. Does sitting sedentary absorbing entertainment Ultimately better you as a person? It's a break from reality. But make no mistake, reality is where you live. And you want to be as smart and capable as you can to survive in it.

I learned a lot history and the story of great men from age of empire and empire earth...in fact, that was what got me to learn more about them, ironic considering those were videogames and yet teached me the story of great men from the past and present.

Yeah. I got education when I studied STEM in university, but that's a fraction of my school curriculum. Almost all my primary education, secondary education, and a large part of my higher education, was either preventing boys to grow by perpetuating nursing, or utter leftist indoctrination.

I got most of my education by following my own curiosity, reading books, watching documentaries on TV back in the days and online today, playing games and getting jobs.

All of which are based on literacy, numeracy and having been exposed to social environments focused on learning.

The foundation that you built upon was nevertheless comprised of institutional learning.

Don't get me wrong. Modern schools are a nightmarish shitshow, designed to warp our children. I would absolutely love to live in a world where we learned more directly from our parents or life experiences. But some degree of institutional education has always been present in society to supplement that which we come by naturally.

They are mutually advantageous. You need both. Only one will leave you intellectually limited.

Video games can be a great hobby, depending on the game itself. As long as you don't get addicted (like I do...).

I've noticed hand-eye coordination, better problem solving skills, and goal oriented thinking skills develop in myself from the games I've played.
