Emperor Claudius was notorious for his bad taste in women, but was otherwise a political animal and, in the realm of politics and image, had many admirable qualities that are otherwise very alpha and indicative of at least half a red pill.

To put it in a historical/cultural context, Claudius was born with a slew of physical handicaps and deformities that made many in his family try to shove him to the sidelines. Julius Caesar, however, saw that he had a great mind and ensured his private education. Hell, when everyone was getting assassinated left and right, the praetorian guard elevated Claudius to the position of Emperor under the pretense that they’d easily be able to manipulate him. Imagine their shock when he halved their leader’s power by appointing another commander loyal to him. He also led numerous campaigns alongside his troops, conquering southern Britain and establishing a city named after himself. I doubt anything like overcoming your own physical handicaps and fighting in grueling hand-to-hand combat can be considered beta.

I’ll agree with you that he was blue pilled with his wife, however I think his mere asking for another cup of wine when she died was indicative of someone who kept frame in the politically dangerous Roman world. He may have known that outright ordering her execution himself may cause him problems later on, and didn’t really care what his constituents did.

Marcus Aurelius on the other hand is a trickier situation. The man is a redpill icon in regards to his meditations and other writings on stoicism, but as far as I had been led to believe, Faustina did think he was dead correct? Hypergamy to be sure, but no one can reasonably expect someone of such a privileged status to not want to keep their power by latching on to the next alpha male to come along in such a dangerous political environment. I myself would’ve divorced her, however I am not as preoccupied with the dynastic image as Aurelius was. He wanted his family to appear perfect and immaculate to the Empire, and maintaining appearances was all he truly cared about (handing the throne to Commodus RIP)

So yes, even Roman emperors could swallow the bluepill. Of course it was a different time and the ramifications were different, but you should also remember that these guys were fucking everything that walked as well. Wives in the Roman world actually expected their husbands to cheat while on campaign (and reasonably at home, as well) as long as they were not Roman citizens, or women of a lesser social class. If I’m the emperor, I don’t necessarily care about what my wife does at home if I’m doing it 100 times better then she is with beautiful women from across the whole Mediterranean at my beck and call ;)
