LTR of 6 months. We’re both young - college students. We’ve been having a small fights here and there (always with her being mad at something menial and me finding it petty). But yesterday was the first day she’s arrived home from a 5-week study abroad trip and things were golden. Great sex, lots of affection, just overall good feelings. Later last night, however, we were messing around and playing rough. She teased I wasn’t be rough enough so I amped it up a bit and jokingly, VERY LIGHTLY slapped her. The same force you’d, for example, use to pat a dog. She didn’t take it well as she looked pissed and forcefully pushed me away. Did I take it too far? Perhaps, I’ll admit it; every girl has different boundaries when it comes to force, but I do find it silly considering the context and weakness of the slap.
Anyway, she proceeded to give me the silent treatment and started to go to bed. I left her place without a word and went for a drive for an hour and a half, listening to music and just making sure I’m calm. She texted me twice, asking me where I was and saying she was worried if I was okay. I told her the truth: I was just driving and I was okay and was about to be home soon.
She has work early this morning, so she snapchatted me asking me what I was doing last night. I said I was just driving. “You were gone for quite a while,” she said, to which I didn’t reply because I already told her what I was doing. She likely suspects I’m cheating (something she’s worried about before). A couple of minutes later, I texted her to ask if I can set up my computer here. She seemed snarky in her texts and I asked her what the intended tone of those texts were. She said there’s a bit of malice in her texts and that we needed to talk about us. She comes home about four-five hours later, and I sense she’s going to talk about ending things.
Now, I truly do love this girl and would prefer we stay together. I want us to fix things, but, learning from a past breakup with a different girl, I know not to EVER fold under the pressure of a breakup. I intend on staying calm and agreeing with the breakup if she tries it. I would immediately pack my things and drive back home. If she’s set on the breakup, so be it. That’s the end; I won’t text her asking to rethink things and trying to convince her anything ever. However, if this is the ultimate shit test, I imagine I’ll come out rather unscathed. After all, the truth is that I’m legions above her league.
This is all speculative of course, and we might end up just having a healthy, civil discussion addressing he problems of our relationship, but I won’t hold my breath. I need to be prepared. So the questions are: would I be making the right moves if she did bring up a break up? Was I just being an asshole last night and actually was approaching abusive territory?
Thank you.
