This cannot be real life: http://np.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/1h9grw/my_f27_best_friend_f27_is_terrible_with_guys_and/
I shall paste the entirety of this goldmine, because it will soon vanish:
Let me begin by saying I love my best friend with all my heart. She is an amazing person. I am asking you guys for advice on how to best proceed.
Let's call my best friend Opal. Opal and I have been friends for seven years. When we were in our early twenties, Opal was a love 'em and leave 'em kind of gal. She's gorgeous, funny, smart, and extremely charismatic. No shortage of guys fawning all over her. It was always entertaining for me, because I liked to hang out in the background and watch her flirt her little heart out.
She'd date around, but never anything long term. Super hot guys, but nobody with real substance. She had a hard time getting attached to anyone.
A few years ago things started to change. She decided she'd like to start looking into a more long term relationship with someone. Much to her surprise, all of these guys that fawned all over her at the bar had either disappeared, moved on to younger conquests, or weren't interested in anything more than the usual fling. A few of her friends (me included) tried to set her up. I live in a different city so it was easy for me to find some fresh faces for her. These ended disastrously for all involved, and though I love Opal, I won't be setting her up again.
Recently she's turned to online dating, and this has been the worst experience for her. She's been stood up several times. People have just stopped talking to her. Some men are treating match.com like adult friend finder. And when she has found a quality guy, she turns into overly attached girlfriend and scares them away. If they don't respond to her first text, she sends 10 more. And then sends 10 to me freaking out about it. Then within half an hour decides that he isn't worth her time, he's an asshole, and doesn't deserve her. Or, if he pays her enough attention within the first three days, she sleeps with him and wonders why he never calls again.
She's starting to get really depressed about it and won't listen to ANYONE. We've tried to tell her to slow down and take it easy, but it seems like she's incapable. How can I help her out? She'd really like to date someone, but it seems like she doesn't know how!
TL;DR Best friend goes crazy while looking for long term boyfriend candidates, is depressed about it, won't take advice.>
