I got AWALT'd by my mother of all people. When she was age 39, she finally pushed enough for a divorce and my dad moved out of the house. My mom wanted out for years before this and the marriage had been in shambles. I believe that one of the reasons she did not push for the divorce sooner was that she was waiting to be secure financially. Once she got a decent career job, the divorce came very quickly.

Even though my mom was 39 years old, she was a fairly good-looking woman and probably looked about 10 years younger than she actually was. She started going out to bars and trying to hook up with guys. One morning, my little brother walked in on my mom and a strange man who was sharing her bed. I later found out that this guy was 29. I got the scoop from my dad later (we lived in a small town and it's easy to know what people are up to). My mom was going out on weekend, and hooking up with chads that were 10 years younger than her and trying to get them to commit. My dad also told me that some good beta-provider type guys asked my mom out, but she denied them all. These were guys with solid careers and money, one was actually a doctor in town. They were a couple years older than her though.

What's even more depressing about this story is that my mom squandered the small remnants of her youth that remained. By the time her chad-chasing was done, her looks finally started to go big time and she ended up alone and unable to get a boyfriend. She is alone to this very day.
