I drive down to go visit my grandfather a few times a year. He lives alone and is in surprisingly good health, especially considering he's pushing 100. He's completely mobile, his hearing and vision have degraded but doesn't yet need glasses or hearing aids. He's barely on any medications. His memory however, is ridiculously top notch. He has better memory than anyone I know. It's ridiculous really. Conversations are usually pretty superficial but today it wasn't.

He asks me about my friends by name. I tell him they're doing fine. One of them got a new job making significantly more than at his old job. His wife is fine. He asks me if they have kids, I say no. He asks me if I still talk to this girl I went out with over 4 (Holy shit I've revised this number twice. Incredible how fast time goes) years ago. I tell him no not really. He tells me that he found out that she has a kid now and if I had met her husband. I say no, I had no idea. Wait how did you even know this? He tells me that she called him about a year ago to ask about me. Lol wait what. I look her up on Google, find her Facebook page, sure enough, single mom.

So then he goes on about how my sister has two kids (I honestly had no idea. Fuck that drug addicted whore. She can fuck off and die. I haven't seen her in years and never want to see her again). I tell him that's nice.

Then he asks me if I still talk to this other girl (again, by name, and described her well) I went out with about 3 years ago. To be honest, this girl was actually almost nawalt unicorn material. Until from one day to the next she wasn't and I said fuck that. I tell him that I haven't seen her in a very very long time.

He asks me if I'm dating anyone and I already knew where this was going before he said that. I tell him well look at the time, I better go heading home so I can beat traffic. I'll stop by next week to give you your Christmas present. Thanks for the coffee. Bye. And leave.

I actually didn't expect that from him. I also didn't expect an ex to try to get in contact with me via my grandfather. Good on him for not relaying my information.
