I have a pretty good relationship with both of my parents. Growing up, I was always thankful for how they raised me, and now as an adult I am still thankful for them. In recent years however I have come to notice a Red Pill truth that has plagued their relationship for as long as I can remember. That truth is the fact that my father is a good, honest, hard-working, reliable man who slaves away to put food on the table and pay bills – and my mother treats him like crap. I often feel that she takes all his sacrifices for granted, and her complaints reflect this. She will often say things like “You’re never here”, “You must want to leave me”, and “You don’t really love me”. She hasn’t worked in over thirty years, and relies entirely on my father for financial support. Whenever my Dad visits his family, she refuses to go as she is very jealous of the fact that he has a good relationship with his family while she has been estranged by her own. Recently my father and I visited his family to go to a wedding. My mother was invited, but chose not to go. The whole time we were gone she sent vile text messages to my father, saying that he was a “loser”, and “arsehole”, that she was going to leave him and rip up all the dresses he has bought her, and that she could “have any guy that I want”. Her immature and abusive behaviour ruined the holiday. She was completely solipsistic.
My father lamented that women frequently get away with behaviour such as this, and that if any man complains to the police or anyone else they are not taken seriously. However, if he sent messages such as those and my mother complained, the full force of the law would be armed against him. My father expressed a tentative moment of being unplugged, when he said “Sometimes I feel like all I am to her is a meal ticket…if I wasn’t bringing in any money and funding her lifestyle, would she really stick around?” I felt sad for him when he said that. He has lived a life of immense sacrifice, and his wife treats him like crap. She completely takes his hard work for granted, and then abuses him when she feels ‘left out’ or ‘abandoned’, and other such immature sentiments. He is at an age now where he is close to retirement, and wants to start living his life, however because my mother has been out of the workforce for so long, she has developed an extremely rigid lifestyle, and absolutely refuses to go out of her comfort zone. Travel for extended periods of time is completely out of the question for her, so my father feels trapped. My father also realizes that his family are getting older and will not be around forever. He wants to visit them more, but he is reluctant because of the abusive treatment he will receive if he goes off by himself, or the embarrassment he will suffer if he brings my mother and she engages in toxic, jealous behaviours in the other family members’ presence. Seeing how my father has been treated over the years, I strive to make sure the same never happens to me.
