Marriage is a vestigial leftover from the time when women weren't allowed to have careers - it was a way to guarantee that they would be able to have and rear children.

But the other half of that was that, in those times, society would absolutely ostracize any woman who had been discovered to be cheating.

These days that behavior is not only accepted but encouraged - "you do you queen!" "yaaaass get it gurl" etc

If they won't fulfill their traditional role, why should men?

Yep. And marriage is also a social status that is completely focused on the woman and her happiness. "Happy wife, happy life" and all that BS. Especially true in the west. The wedding is her big day, so to speak. And you get stuck in this contract that is favorable towards her.
