A checkout girl at the local grocery that I talk to sometimes asked about my plans for Christmas. First she asked me if I cook. I told her I do cook, but not for Christmas. I told her I was going to buy some things already cooked. Then she asked if I was spending time with family. I told her no. I didn't tell her why but I cut off my drama queen sister a long time ago (no regrets there). Both parents are gone.

Then she asked if people were coming over. I said, no.

So she asked if any friends invited me for dinner. I said no.

"So you're going to be alone on Christmas?" Yes.

"Were you invited to any Christmas parties? No." Then she told me she was having a party for Christmas with some friends. In my mind I was saying "Please don't invite me. No. Don't invite me!" She didn't.

My point is that I can't wait to have the day to myself. No pressure to visit two or three homes like when I was married. We spent most of the day running around visiting so family members wouldn't get their feelings hurt. (Mostly her family) Spent a ton of money buying gifts for everyone.

I suppose I should feel bad about being alone on Christmas. But the reality of it is that I can't wait to enjoy the solitude. Just me and my dog, and a movie or two.

Too bad the gym will be closed.
