She Threw A Party To Show Off Her New Husband: I Didn’t Go

A precocious colleague of mine once decided to throw a party to show off her new husband. I didn’t like her for several reasons. Firstly she had a reputation for having dated many guys in her early twenties, and had recently decided to settle down with a business owner who had an extremely high salary. Secondly, she had been incredibly lucky and privileged in her life; having always grown up with lots of money, obtained several advanced degrees, and was highly connected socially. In fact, she had gotten the current job by sucking up to one of the female selectors who was close friends with her. Many ideal candidates therefore missed out. I was in the interview at the time she went in, and saw the female selector walk past and wink at her; corrupt and immoral as the sisterhood often is. Thirdly, she had an extremely positive attitude in life, and was always smiling about everything; to the point where she seemed insincere or naïve; or a combination of both. Finally, as a part of her role she had to interact with several clients who were extremely vulnerable and downtrodden in life. I found myself wondering how she could possibly have any credibility working with these clients; given that her life had always been so privileged.

Towards the end of the work year she got married, went on an expensive holiday that was primarily funded by her rich husband, and changed her Facebook name. Then she decided to organize a Facebook event under the guise of an ‘end of year work party’, even though we had already had two of these, and which was clearly done so that she could show off her new husband. The location of the party was at another female colleague’s house who lived in a beachfront property. Similarly, this woman had ridden the cock carousel in her younger years and had eventually decided to marry-up. At the time she was married to a very rich banker who had paid for the beachfront property all by himself.

I boycotted the party. In fact, no male colleagues went, which suggested that some of them had similar sentiments to me. On Facebook the next day the recently married woman put photos up. In most of the photos she was standing in the front with her husband, with a beautiful beachfront view in the background, looking extremely happy with herself.

I unfollowed her page.
