I normally just lurk here and on PPD, but just had to make this post. I know many, perhaps most of you are already rolling your eyes at my naivete...and want to let you know up front that I've waited almost a full year of knowing this female before writing this.

I work as a janitor at a high school in the US, been here about 12 years. I'm 45, never married, never had kids. Like my job and the benefits/PTO. Essentially living the life, just me and my 4 cockatiels in a small house. In January of last year, we got an addition to our previously all male janitorial team of 3 plus myself...a 31 year old, never married, childless white woman, "Jane".

I was obviously prepared to have to pick up the slack when I first saw this new development. All the other guys I work with are married with kids, blue pill to the extreme. Didn't take long for them to start tripping over themselves to help the new girl. I kept my distance of course...not being rude or nasty, just not running to her side everytime she needed to know where supplies were or what the priority chore list was.

Since we are both in the afternoon shift, we've ended up working together more often than not, and talking to pass the time. At first it was basic stuff. I'm not stupid, I keep most of my cards close to my chest. But I've found out that she collects comic books, loves action movies and psychological thrillers, is the oldest of 7 siblings, comes from a divorced home with a highly abusive father and stepfather (she refuses to talk about what happened with the stepfather exactly, but is open about the punches from bio dad so I'm unfortunately thinking she was molested), and shares the same love of videogames and Asian cuisine I do. She even does P90x every other day, doesn't smoke, rarely drinks, and looks about 5-8 years younger than she is. No piercings, no tats, wears glasses instead of contacts, is anti-makeup, and obviously enjoys having a strong body. The only thing about her looks that made me wary at first was her very short haircut...I was afraid I had a feminist on my hands but she says she just likes having short hair since we do a lot of dirty work.

I've shared less info with her, but what I did tell her she actually remembers. For example, I commented to her one Friday that I hadn't played Shadow of Mordor yet and on Monday she brought it in for me to borrow. She's brought in lunches I've commented on wanting to try with extra for me to have. When it was the anniversary of my father's death, she remembered even though we'd last spoken about it 3 months prior, and gave me a quick hug while telling me that if I wanted to head out early that night she'd understand and cover for me, which she did. Hell, I left my wallet at home one day and she handed me $20 for gas without even being asked, and wouldn't accept it back when I tried to repay her.

Every shit test I've thrown at her she has passed, and it has made me think I've actually found a NAWALT. Statistically it had to happen to one of us, since it's true that not 100% of women can be "Like That". Honestly, talking to her is incredibly similar to talking with my male friends and she's never once brought up any feminine topics or gossiped about our coworkers. She's like a dude in a female body as weird as that sounds (or maybe not so weird nowadays, with all the trans people around).

I'm not working with her again till Friday, but I'm thinking of very subtly asking her what she thinks of "those guys online who don't want to be in relationships", marriage, men's rights, etc over the next week and reporting back. Thoughts? Questions? Want to just tell me I'm being retarded?
