So, just a little backstory; I work for a major IT distributor firm in my country. Have had the current position for about a year and a half. Never got a raise or any other benefits (car, phone, etc) because of how my boss was unwilling to push hard enough for it to happen (the firm is very cheap in the sense they see everything as an unnecessary expense). Recently, my boss quit his job and the spot has been unfilled for 4 months now. I had to take some of his job on me, have been doing the rest of my job as well and doing it very well.
Now, I need to buy a new car since the one I’m using is no longer going to be available to me (as I said, it’s not a company car). That’s why I need a raise. Also, I think one is long overdue.
So my question is: How do I ask for it? Do I ask for it by email? Do I ask for a meeting? Do I do it agressively or mildly?
Bare in mind, my GM is a woman and the HQ where she sits is in another country and she rarely comes to mine.
