almost 30, no debt of any kind here. never have had a loan, dont ever want one.

i pay cash, only use credit for the cash back rewards and pay it off immediately.

Editing. So here goes. He should’ve never gotten married. Made sure he could pay the loan by going into a respectable field. Never take on a girlfriend. Live cheap. And then if he wants to be an English teacher he could relocate.

Honestly the article says a decent school is 50k a year. That’s a lie. My school is fairly reputable and about 30k a year in state IF you use the college facilities. Maybe 40k out of state. It drops the more you look for ways to cut your pay. Like rooming in with friends, own apartment, work part-time. And so on.

Honestly the majority of the debt is by women. And the rest men. And these people instead of searching for financial security and becoming literate just jump the gun and hope the bullet doesn’t sting.

Not to mention how many dollars these students spent and whether they will pay back even the initial costs.

Take it from me; follow your passio after you have enough cash. Then go ahead and teach all you want. Don’t look for sympathy when you knew where it was going.

Is the wife working? Is she? Or did she just go housewife and lay the debts on him? A part time job as an English teacher? Why not be a technical writer first?

There are options people. Learn them. Or you might get burned.

it used to be mortgage was considered the biggest debt you could have..

now it's child support, alimony, mortgage, school loans, in this order..

The key is to focus on return on investment. I'll owe 257k after law school but my first year of law practice will be 180k salary and 45k bonus.

Salary and bonus increases every year.

Something I didn't see mentioned, Do not marry someone with high student loan debt or even worse,the stay at home mom with 50k in debt and no plans to pay it herself. Dont be a sucker. It will absolutely screw up your life.

Some of these school debt numbers are insane. I got my college diploma for $7,000 and got a supervisor job with it after a couple years in entry level. I don't like that line of work anymore so I'm going to trade school which will cost around $6,000 everything included. Not a single cent of debt.

If you're graduating on a field that pays well, student loan is just an investment.

If you're graduating on Gender Studies with a minor on Equality and Empowerment Theory, well...
