How many of you don't prefill your oil filter?

I never have . I drain the oil, then remove the oil filter . Then i put a dab of oil around the rubber gasket of the new filter, twist it in snug and then put the oil to the crankcase. Start it up, let it run awhile and check for leaks and check the level on the stick

Never had an issue in 30 years.

Like most of the guys here, I was taught by my dad and grandfather to put a bit of oil on the rubber ring seal and then screw it on. Pre-filling would be impossible on cars where the filter goes on sideways, or in the case of some Subarus, goes on upside down on top of the engine.

Oil filter goes on sideways on my engine so can't really prefill it enough to matter.

If you're having trouble getting your oil from your big jug to the hole without making sense, maybe you should see a doctor for that. ;)

I always prefill, clean mount area, oil gasket. Saw someone else working on a Caddy once and it wouldn't catch and pump.

Never done that. Just put a little oil on the seal and put it back and call it good

Just did an oil change yesterday. I never pre-fill the filter. I just lube the rubber seal and that's it. The filter on my car sits sideways, so pre-filling it would mean oil spilling on me while I install the filter.

The engine probably has a second of dry running before the filter fills with oil and flows normally. I don't think it's a problem.
