Money is nothing more than bartering one good for another. What form it takes is immaterial.

Yes, we currently use a fiat currency that has no intrinsic value on its own. Why does that matter? Your hypothetical scenario will never happen and money will almost always be incredibly important. Without our concept of money we would still be living in the stone ages.
