The documentary, The Mask You Live In, which was recently shown at a forum on men’s issues at the University of B.C., pictures masculinity as the driving force behind virtually all that is wrong with North American culture.

The Mask You Live In is feminist propaganda.

The documentary argues these values cause widespread violence, abuse, addiction, crime and war — and it implies they need to be replaced by more feminine values, such as those related to sharing feelings, empathy, co-operating and nurturing.

The Mask You Live In builds its case against masculinity — which it would have been more accurate to define as “hyper-masculinity” — on a gender theory called “hegemonic masculinity,” which is purported to be a system of cultural narratives that keep men dominant.

The qualifiers of toxic, or hyper, or hegemonic are just a case of dust being thrown in your eyes. Feminists are against MASCULINITY, full stop. Feminists are against men, full stop. Feminists are against men having any power or authority over any woman, full stop.

This field comes laden with clichés about men. One related study published in the Sex Roles Journal argued that “masculine norms” include placing a high value on violence, being disgusted by homosexuality, acting sexually promiscuous, controlling others and pursuing social status at all cost.

Women are as violent as men, they just aren't as punished as men. Who cares about homosexual men as long as they stick to being homosexual with each other? Sexual promiscuity in men requires some natural ability or practiced skill. Sexual promiscuity in women is an example of laziness and/or stupidity. Who is more controlling than women? Why do women seek out these low-paid jobs that allow them to exert power over the weak and the disabled (teacher, daycare worker, nurse, social worker, etc.)? As to social status, clams worldwide were beside themselves over a British wedding. Who is obsessed with social status again?

As Vancouver clinical psychologist Dan Bilsker says, The Mask You Live In and the academic studies that inform it often seem devoted to “vilifying and caricaturing” an extreme version of masculinity.

Even though McDonough generally supports the film’s message that men should not confine themselves to narrow gender roles, he cites how philosopher Christina Hoff Sommers’ book, The War Against Boys, maintains too many North Americans are falling into the habit of demonizing masculinity in its entirety.

Pretty much. Men are always bad. We are not capable of goodness unless we embrace feminism, repudiate our biological urges, our wants, and our happiness in favor of the protean preferences of females.

To question masculinity is like questioning the existence of males. You can’t overcome identity.

Masculinity = being an adult.

Women have never been burdened with being adults, so clearly anything they oppose and throw tantrums about (adulthood) must be toxic, because women neither understand nor have accountability and responsibility, which are toxic adult traits.

Masculinity is not toxic or shameful. Masculinity is a beautiful thing that should be celebrated. It is a shame that society is trying to condemn it.
