The reason I posted this link, on this subreddit, is to bring to light, the things that contribute to "hitting the wall." Now I am all for science and the cures it brings to help humanity yet this news here is a double edged sword. On one hand, we have science that can do some real good. On the other, we have something that can contribute to "removing" the wall, so to speak.
On a side note: this article states that this is just the "first evidence," so cures will take some time, however, it is definitely something we should all keep an eye out for.
Genetic Disorders/Diseases like this, are things that contribute to form the "bricks" of the "wall." Disorders/Diseases like Down Syndrome, whose rates of acquirement INCREASE with maternal age, thus contribute to hitting the wall, among the other factors of decreased beauty, inability to attract men, etc.
Study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1051343/pdf/jmedgene00235-0042.pdf
Although this study is focused on metropolitan Atlanta and Ohio, you can see in TABLE 2 and 3, in the Ratio column on the far right, as women age, the ratio gets smaller and smaller, thus increasing the chance of offspring acquiring the disease.
Disorders/Diseases like this can add to the effect of "hitting the wall."
My questions are these: What happens when disorders/diseases that are affected by Maternal age are cured? What issues will arise in social behavior of women who were once fearful of giving birth AFTER the age of 30? Sure, there is more to the wall than just diseases, theres beauty, attraction, etc, but what, if any, effect will something like this have on the behavior of women? Will it prompt them to be more willing to hit the wall? Will there be a wall?
So much must be asked as science improves and things that have ailed us are now becoming a thing of the past.
I want these genetic disorders/diseases cured, because no one should have to live with them, I just don't want the extra issues that can possibly come out of it.
