One of the world’s top female goalkeepers is being prevented from playing soccer for the Calgary Foothills FC men’s soccer league because of her gender.

Stephanie Labbé‍‍‍, 31, is the goaltender for Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team and has played at an elite level since she was a teenager.

An 'elite' female athlete plays at roughly the level of a male high-school athlete.

The Edmonton native tried out for and won a spot on the Calgary Foothills FC team, which is part of the Premier Development League (pdl), but will not be allowed to play in regular season games because she is a woman.

She is allowed to practice with the team and wrote in her blog that the club and the players have made her feel welcome. “I can’t say enough about this group of guys. I truly feel like they treat me like one of their own. They added me to the players private chat if that says anything. The staff and club opened up their door to this opportunity and made me feel so welcome.”

And this is where you fucked up. You let them in, they take over.

Labbé says she asked the league about its decision and was told that the rules state ‘The PDL is a men’s league’ and that ‘given that the PDL is a gender based league, women are ineligible to play.’

Seems pretty straightforward.

They should have given her a chance and then fired her a month or two later for underperformance. Anyone has any doubts she'd absolutely suck playing with men?
