If you don't know by now, the recently released GOD OF WAR video game exclusive for the PS4 has been touted as one of the greatest video games ever made, certainly the greatest single player in recent years.

I don't have a PS4, but the online videos are breathtaking. It really is a beautiful game.

But know what is more beautiful than the graphics? The game focuses on the relationship between the God of War Kratos and his son, Atreus or simply Boy. The game traces their struggle to climb a mountain to perform a memorial ritual for their recently deceased NAWALT mother-wife. I can get behind men and boys honoring their honorable wives and mothers.

This is not the first time a male hero has been paired with a child. In LAST OF US, grizzled widower Joel finds Ellie, a girl who stands in for his daughter who died in the zombie apocalypse 20 years before.

It was a hit game. But do girls really need more support in the media? Women have monopolized child rearing and education of children. Girls today get more than enough support from their same-gender role models. Men's fantasy for raising a son is being replaced in the media by a fantasy of raising a daughter. It's no accident that today many boys are desperate for male role models, for affection and love from their fathers, uncles, male teachers and others. It's like the ideal of feminism is for boys to have nobody in their corner.

GOD OF WAR promises something else in celebrating the father son relationship. I remember one clip where Kratos hesitates to put his hand on his son's shoulder. That's the TOUCH DEPRIVATION we are all suffering from. What does it mean for popular media to show a father painfully retreating from physically caressing his son? It tells me this society is sick! GOD OF WAR is showing us how sick and stupid that hesitation is. Let's overcome it.

I hope GOD OF WAR inspires MGTOW to reach out to the boys in their lives, whether they are their biological sons, step-sons, nephews, students, or simply friends. Fatherhood is something men choose, and we should choose to be fathers and father figures, not only for their sake but for our own because these relationships matter and make us strong.
