This is another prime example of a Holliwood lie. Here the wife is 100% behind her man and overrides her biological nature, puts her husband before her children and submits to her husband beyond call of duty.

Just to recap. In this story this farmer has a ridiculous dream to send himself into space. He's presented as some hasbeen air force pilot who however did receive astronaut training.

I'm not knocking the story, it's a great Sunday afternoon feel good, I'm just discussing the relationship dynamics now.

The farmer has a wife and 3 children. A teenage son and 2 younger daughters. He's also on the verge of bankruptcy. You never see him do even a scrap of farming and he's spending all his time working on an amatuer rocket in his barn which he believes will get him into space. While this is going on the banks are deadly serious about repossessing his farm. Also worth noting that most of the people in the town think he's some kind of nut job.

So where to start?

  1. The wife has stary eyes for him full time - even though their farm is about to be repossessed. Bullshit - No woman on earth would walk around with fluttering eyes when their security is threatened.

  2. If this was real she would have taken those kids as leverage and gone and stayed at her mother's house.

  3. She even encourages the table talk about "going to the moon". Bullshit -> She would most likely see his pursuit as competition for her time and more importantly - He's not under the thumb following her agenda. There would be massive friction in that house.

  4. She works at a diner. More bullshit. Do you think she would be ok working long shifts in a diner while he gets to play rocket man? Do you even think she would be working in a diner if they own a ranch like that? More likely she would want him working the fields so she could get her SUV and be a soccer mom.

  5. She's so supportive of him and actually defends him. Bullshit - women these days will sell you under the bus. There's a sense of "What is normal and what is expected of you in society" and women will run with this, not with you 99.9% of the time.

  6. The biggest joke is when her father dies, she donates the entire inheritance to him - yet again ignoring the glaring problem of the farm being repossessed. Oh fucking please - In reality she would use that as ammunition "Put an end to your dreaming or I take this money and run".

  7. She lets him take the kids out of school for 5 weeks. If this was real "THESE ARE MY CHILDREN" -> and "Your delusional ideas won't destroy MY kids". etc.

  8. She would actually long ago have convinced those children that their father was insane / a crazy dreamer and they should be more grounded.

I really have to wonder if this is a drama for men, or a comedy for women. What does the average women think when they watch something like this? It must be really foreign to them.
