If an ideology, no matter how stupid or distasteful to my palate, keeps its nose clean then I really don't care. I am not the arbiter of what others may believe, as they are not of me. The second an ideology attempts to push its values onto the unwilling, commits or intends to commit plainly criminal or barbarous acts (affecting us or citizens overseas), or represents an existential threat to the West then I have zero problem with it being corrected by force (or if necessary, snuffed out by it).

Christians by and large are an irrelevance to the West. When was the last time you heard of any Christian being any more than a nuisance at most when acting malignantly? The same cannot be said of Muslims. There isn't a day that goes by without a member of their vile cult killing or maiming someone, or generally acting in a manner that makes a dog eating its own shit look positively refined in comparison.

1) The West has a great deal of its roots in Greco-Roman society. Christianity (and Judaism) is just the latest in a long line of religions tacked on. We started out with pantheism and now we have a Christianity that is essentially hippie monotheism (more love thy neighbour than Old Testament smiting). So apart from a bunch of stick up the arse fundies with their panties in a bunch over the existence of whorishness, abortions, and faggotry, Christians by and large are innocuous (with the former group being an annoyance rather than any sort of threat to society).

Christianity is already being sidelined. It won't take long to go from mocking believers to straight up prosecuting them.

Mocking someone is not a crime. Christians do it all the time. Sauce for the goose and all that.

As for prosecuting someone for Christianity, not in the West. You have to go to the Islamic lands for that.

I think the biggest fear for some Christians in the West is not oppression but irrelevance. People understand the message and simply don't care or outright reject it. The West has been secular for a long time now. We get on okay.

The question that interests me is what does Christianity bring to the table? For a lot of people the answer is nothing. If Christians want more believers then they need to figure out how to sell it better.

I'm not a Christian, I'm an atheist, but I respect people's right to believe whatever they do. If my choice is personal and not prescriptive then I'll gladly respect that right in others. However, my tolerance ends the second the believer has the hubris to think their ideology should be applicable to me or anyone else without consent. That goes for Christians or those that wish to suppress them (but I make an exception for Islam as I consider its pernicious nature to be antithetical to Western values and an existential risk to the West. Islam should be curtailed because it threatens civilisation. All freedoms have their limits).

In fields like academia true believers with strong moral convictions are denied access or are being removed from positions of power because they go against various leftist agendas.

This is hardly exclusive to religious views. The simple fact is that academia is a monoculture and needs a goddamn broom shoved through it to clean out the lack of discourse and academic rigour.

I think there's a reasonable argument for new forms of higher education. If you look at Prof. Jordan B Peterson's recent trials he's clearly moved a huge portion of his teaching to the web, and has begun to discuss forming an online university of like minded individuals. That model can work and IMO should be supported. It is financially viable and regardless of whether some left leaning establishment likes it or not there's clearly a great deal of interest from the public. Remove the university gatekeepers and the ideas will flourish on their own merits.

All of this and more has already happened in various communist dictatorships, there's no reason to believe it cannot happen on a larger scale.

That's certainly true, and history is very cyclical. The idea of socialism/communism keeps popping up (paradoxically as a product of middle class intellectualism). That being said, I think that the commies have missed their window and what's about to come in is social disharmony (possibly violent) followed by conservatism (possibly extreme conservatism. That could be bad but let's not prejudge it).

If you speak to younger people the majority are highly conservative politically but tend to be less so socially (ie. more MAGA and less tradcon). It's just that perceptions are being thrown because for every hundred normal kids you've got some obese university transfaggot in ren faire drag making a noisy spectacle of themselves. Unsurprisingly a quality of conservatism is reserve, and that's the opposite of all the special snowflake attention seeking of the hard left.

I wouldn't class Marxism as religious in nature but I'd certainly class neo-Marxism as taught in university as religious in nature. Despite all the bullshit it causes it certainly isn't representative of education as a whole (but it is very much a pernicious influence on it).

Where even today if you cause a problem to the government (be it as a llama in Nepal, Muslim Uyghur, or Falun Gong cultist) you can expect to be on the receiving end of anything from harsh to fatal punishment for that.

The Chinese do not fuck around when it comes to threats to China. Couple that with a population entirely divorced from religion as a product of the cultural purge (because whilst religion can arise over time organically it is typically inculcated by parents) and you have a people with a lot of incentive to stay secular.

Even stupid people know when to put their heads down in the face of force.

If your best argument for taking a shit on education is contemporary neo-Marxist ideology then you need to look to your own house. If serious problems were grounds for throwing something out rather than fixing it then Christianity would have been binned a long time ago. Problems call for reform rather than disavowment (at least if something is fundamentally of worth, which is debatable in the case of religion. However, I consider religion a personal matter and thus have no issue with people believing it provided it is confined to the willing only, and I find that debate mostly academic rather than practical because of that).

What has happened on campuses sucks but I think it is on the outer. Neo-conservatism is on the rise and everywhere that SJWs are allowed full reign literally kills the enrolments and funding of that campus. The great irony of being a champagne socialist is that it's expensive, it requires a huge infrastructure to create and sustain. Without millions in financial support it will die - and we're seeing that support dry up right now.

Do you really think the Foxconn factory is full of rocket scientists on those assembly lines? No, what you're looking at is people that would have been tilling fields 15 years ago. Now they go to cities where wages are better, send all their cash home to the village, and visit home once a year. I would also hazard a guess that the PRC government doesn't give a fuck about ancestor worship and that there's a shitload of that happening.

I personally believe that the problem with stating that religiosity is inverse to education is that it causes a lot of believers to A) be insulted by an implication they're stupid, and B) forces their own religious doubts into their conscious minds. I think this is ultimately a product of not fully grasping the meaning of the premise and of not understanding the nature of faith. You see believers flip out and try to prove their faith with the exact tools that are designed to remove doubt. Well, that's not what faith is, is it? Faith is believing in the face of doubt and hardship - because after all: what's a faith that's untested?¹

As for whether or not believers are stupid, there's the literal meaning of the premise (ie. we can statistically compare levels of religiosity with those of education and see a replicable relationship) and there's the nuanced examination of the premise. You don't have to be dumb to be a believer, but the statistics say it helps². It's not hard to see why. The smarter you are the easier it is for you to perceive flaws and problems. It is trivial for example to point out that the English language didn't exist 2,000+ years ago (certainly not in Middle Eastern Jews) and that Mary and Joseph are not Jewish names - so clearly the inviolate word of God is demonstrably less inviolate than claimed. We are literally reading the English fan-sub of the Bible at best, and I consider that to be a rather serious issue when it comes to a manual for ethics and living. Basically, the smarter you are the higher your evidential requirements will be. Often those requirements are too high for those without a nuanced understanding of faith (either experientially, academically, or both) to meet.

1) If you need science to prove to you or anyone else that your faith is true then you're not proving your faith, your faith is testing you. My advice to those with doubts is to ask God for help. That being said, assuming you're going to like the answers you get is pure hubris. You only have to read the Bible to see some of the astoundingly shitty things that God did to those of faith - don't assume you'll be treated with any greater mercy.

2) The smarter you are the worse your life can be. Smarter people are less happy, less mentally well, etc. The more of the picture you see the harder things get. We don't live in a happy and just world, we living in a capricious universe that is happy to torture, maim, and kill us, not out of spite or deserved punishment, but through mere chaos.

There's an acronym I like for describing the universe: VUCA - Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous. An elegant if unsettling description of the true nature of our environment. We want to live in a just and fair world, where our conduct matters and we are rewarded and punished commensurate with that but what we get is a universe that will just as likely slaughter us as give us happiness.

For me, there's no god, there's just a chaotic role of the dice that I do my best with. For me truth, in this case an unhappy one, is more important than blissful ignorance. The truth certainly does set you free but there's a damn good reason nobody says the truth will make you happy. If you want to be happy you should stick to ignorance and lies.

We are both talking about two different time frames as far as education. My original question refers to the current marxist based educations system, not the one of thousands of years ago.

I too agree that we shouldn't, as you put it "not throwing away the intellectual root of our civilisation", the problem is that the current education system is being poison by marxist based ideology, (aka a religion of a different form), in pretty much every Western society worldwide. Re; China is sending space ships to the moon and Mars too, they can't be that dumb. Sure that some areas there are not as advanced but one can say the very same thing about US or even Europe. The point was that China is fairly advanced and hardly has any religion, thus your example is a non-sequitur.

As far as I am concerned, pretty much anything that ends in ISM is technically a form of religion. There are goods and bads about all of them; some people need it as an handrail; governments often use it as a form to control the masses; self-interest groups push for it. I just find it so ironic that one is so eager to criticize one ISM but openly accept yet another ISM.

Well, my personal view of faith is completely different than anything I have come across, hence why it is personal. Basically, there are two forms of religion, one with a small 'r' a very organized one at that with specially books that back it up, such as your example 1). The other is with a large 'R' a personal one. It makes as much sense for one to claim to be an atheist as the other to claim to be a blind believer, they both lack evidence for their claims.
