I've been in a few similar situations before and like you I always shrug them off and usually say "Uh, yeah, maybe". I agree with whatever bullshit they spew out of their mouth, even if agreeing is the rude thing to do. It amuses me, but also conveys the message that I'm not here to play bullshit; I just want to end this interaction as quickly as possible. I've learned how to be a real smooth asshole this way.
