NB: what i love about this sub is that we come here for different reasons. I might not need consolation or much advice as I'm way past frustration phase, but I come back because the stories are a nice reminder.
The two men in today's story are my brother, and a friend of both of ours. My brother got married years ago to what has become a stay-at-home wife (no kids). They don't live near me but are visiting right now. Stay-at-home SIL loves to pester me about getting into a relationship, but she won't ever say it outright, always going back to how it's my decision and that I shouldn't do anything I don't want, but she's happy to nag. I honestly think it is an example of misery loves company, because she can't possibly be enjoying spending years and years accomplishing nothing with her life.
Well, today they got into another argument. I don't even care what the reason is any more - they usually take it outside but not today. So I crank up the headphones and message my friend who had set up a drinking/bar hop party with a bunch of friends. I would rescue my brother (who was invited) but obviously he's not going anywhere. We'll come back to my brother's eventual fate later.
I head out and drive over to the public transit parking lot. That's when our friend tells me not to bother coming over - he and his girlfriend are also fighting. So now the long weekend drinking party is postponed.
I go and occupy my evening with shenanigans and come back home hours later and find my brother by himself in the kitchen. We make small talk and I notice him setting up in the living room (I have but one guest room) couch to sleep. I wonder if this was what he signed up for - all to keep somebody around that's convenient and with whom they have history? It's shit like that which make me able to understand infidelity.
These two events alone might not merit a thread but here's the kicker: my brother doesn't live anywhere nearby and hasn't seen our friend for at least a year - and my brother's leaving next week. If I don't get him out of the house tomorrow, and if my friend doesn't man up about his girlfriend, who knows when my brother will come back to visit. And all because a couple of women start shit with their partners.
Extra: I have a suspicion also that my SIL doesn't like my brother's friends; bad influence and everything. I certainly don't help what with my vasectomy and my refusal to fall in line with the life script.
Don't get married.
