Guns in general, yes. Now, don’t ask me what guns you can or can’t have or what you have to do to buy/sell/import them. I have a feeling something like an ar15 or glock is probably going to be a no, but that’s not backed by actual knowledge, just a hunch; whereas a Winchester M70 or SxS shotgun feels like it would probably be good to go.

I bet if you googled “gun laws in canada”, you’d be off to the races with actual facts. Also keep in mind that there are provinces in canada which, while not totally autonomous, do have latitude in enacting different laws.

Handguns no. Shotguns and rifles yes, but you need to be certified, be a member of a gun club, and own locked gun case for each gun you own.

Join a gun club with a shooting range and they can help you get set up.

I am not Canadian, but I know at some point they had a permit system that allowed restricted guns to individuals such as ARs and handguns. Hunting type rifles are still ok as far as I know. Damned shame that import restrictions were imposed.. I know a lot of SVT 38s and 40s are up there, and cheap.. and we can't get them imported down here in the states.

With the right permits, anything is allowed.

Possession and Acquisition License (PAL): rifles and shotguns generally suited to hunting and/or home defence.

Restricted: semiautomatic rifles, most handguns, proscribed rifles and shotguns.

Prohibited: automatic weapons, artillery, proscribed rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

Concealed (CCW): very difficult to obtain, essentially your life has to be in imminent danger and police are unable to help you (a debate for another day).

Open carry is generally prohibited without Authorisation to Carry (ATC), which states you need a firearm to hand for work-related reasons (police, border, professional bodyguard, armoured car guard, etc.).
