I've seen some comments from MGTOWs claiming that meditation and Buddhism has helped them live happier lives
The "world's happiest man" Matthieu Ricard gave a speech saying that the key to happiness is to be compassionate towards others and that selfishness is the key to misery

I don't quite buy it. In my experiences in life, I've dealt with tons of narcissistic, self-centered pieces of shits. Whether those people be chads, bad boy losers, womyn, frat boy types, socially inept obese guys or whatever, they don't all seem to have depression like he claims. They make friendships at work (probably very superficially based and bent on using the other person), get out of bed to their jobs to work, etc. If they were depressed, they would just stay at home unemployed and no one would want to talk to them. Yet, none of them were compassionate as alot of them felt the need to try to shit on me or ignore me/treat me like I was nonexistent. It seems to me that those who seem the happiest (as in, others will say that person is very happy) are just putting on a facade. Or they just want make connections with those with more status.
Moreover, I'm sure there's plenty of guys who are "compassionate" and they end up being perceived as weak, doormats. For example, these guys are easy targets for women to shit on in relationships or marriages
So for you Buddhist types into meditation, what do you think? You really think this guy is the happiest man in the world? I think not
