I was very lonely all throughout my life and movies were my refuge- American movies(I am from India). Now I am in the industry because I didn't know anything else to do.

There is a great article written by Ben Brantley titled "Where have all the sphinxes gone" on the charm and aura of the movie star which has all but dissipated today(written in 2010). And it is so true, my head hurts. And it gets worse with each passing day.

See, I grew up on manly heroes and films with meaning made by great directors with a vision. Films like Jeremiah Johnson, artists like Burt Reynolds and Rod Serling. Even watching the interviews and chat shows from the 60s-90s it seems there was an air of seriousness, infused with jokes and casual banter.

Now I watch these talk shows online and they make me cry instead of laugh. The two Jimmies- one who is always crying and the other who is always fake laughing. Trevor Noah just panders to political crap. I don't even know the others. Everything is a joke, nothing is serious or interesting. This just proves how emasculated the culture has become- making everything sarcastic is a sign of weakness. There is a reason older men, or men of character had a stoic, serious demeanor. Today you would be razed and told to "relax and chill."

That article rings true with each passing day- every actor, every movie star and singer is on these shows, playing games, posing in wigs and interacting with ordinary folks, asking retarded questions like "Do you have any black friends" or "Are you carrying a condom on you right now".

Sorry for the rant but I miss the old days of the manly movie star with character. Of course some banter and fun is needed but it seems everyone is joking and trying to be relate-able. Even major stars like Tom Cruise or Matt Damon have become ordinary and almost boring....I see you everyday, why would I want to see your movie man? Everyone is on twitter sharing their daily life tid bits to us- don't they realize that this makes you less enigmatic? Less fascinating? There is a reason great writers like Pynchon or Harper Lee or Salinger were so fascinating- they were enigmatic. These are signs of a declining civilization.
