I repay them by buying the next round of drinks/food. Or I will hide the cash where they will find it, and they think they found extra money.

Only thing ive ever had another guy pay for is drinks or lunch/dinner. I usually just repay the favor

If its something like a bar tab I just pick it up next time. Or we maintain an informal economy of debt and credits, which can be exchanged for various things.

If they are stubborn, I'll leave $ at their place on a counter then text them about paying them back.

I've also bought them food when we go out, items, etc in return. I'm sure I let them know that it is my way of paying them back from "that one time".
