Monogamy (albeit traditional or serial) is good for business, but bad for evolution. In the animal kingdom, those with good genes mate, while those with bad ones, don't.

In society, those with bad genes, e.g., beta males, are the ones who are mating. The ability to generate resources in a money-market economic system trumps that of just being a fucking beast.

It always seemed to me pointless to make bigamy illegal. Bigamy has its own build-in punishment.
