That's exactly the fucked up part of divorce. You don't pay based on necessity, you pay based on what you make. I gave my ex wife a paid off house and car. How much more did she need to live on? She ended up not working the entire time I was paying her alimony. 3 year paid vacation. Fuck the courts and fuck marriage.

Marriage is a LEGALLY BINDING contract enforced by the laws of the state you live in.

But no one wants to know or talk about that when love happens

Pre-nups are like cancer to a relationship, no one wants to talk about those either, except for famous or wealthy folks.

Bottom line is that this is 2017, and THERE IS NO REASON to be married any more. If you decide you really want to have children and provide the $500,000 per child to raise them through college, find a lawyer and draw up a LEGAL PARTNERSHIP with another person

That way you get to define the terms, not some judge in divorce court

i'm getting tired of my female friend's misogyny, and i want you to stop for a moment and consider how weird that situation is. she straight up blames women for everything. and i go "ok but you see the incentives to trap a man in a marriage and divorce him for benefits don't actually exist" to which she offers no clear response. i think her deal is 1) dismantle the financial safety nets for women, 2) dismantle alimony, child support, etc.

women don't have perverse incentives! a divorcee mom's quality of life and economic standing falls sharply compared to that of a man's, and her dating market becomes nonexistent. they have NO INCENTIVES. they're worse off with benefits than they are with a husband, which means the explanation for the divorce rate lies fucking elsewhere. it's not benefits, it's not no-fault divorce.

like, imagine the thought process, for an actual human being and not a MGTOW caricature: "i'll pursue a predatory machiavellian plan involving massive changes of lifestyle, years of fakery, which impacts all the relationships in my life and concludes with a massive loss of wealth, leisure time, and economic security for me... the perfect crime!"

no-fault divorce didn't do this because no-fault divorce happened when the courts didn't want to deal with the absurd rise in people committing perjury to escape shitty marriages.

you might say women don't consciously think it out like that, but if you're going to frame women in this deterministic economic agent sense, that's what you're looking at (although that wasn't the only angle i covered). i promise you no woman is ignorant of the difficulty and social upheaval involved unless she's like an IQ 70 sheboon.

it's really hard to analyze divorce rates neatly as a discrete social issue. super broadly speaking it's another symptom of a larger failure to cope with mass society, rather than the TRUE, PERNICIOUS NATURE OF WOMEN being UNLEASHED UNTO MANKIND (mohammed had it right with the burqas).

if you look at it not from the perspective of women being BITCH WHORES, but another subset of human relationships, things make more sense you dissect the breakdown of interpersonal bonds broadly (between neighbours, between politicians and their constituents, between generations of family, between businesses and customers), and a ton of obvious issues spill out e.g. couples live entirely apart from their parents and so lack a layer of support that people have historically had available, contributing to the couple's stress levels, loss of free time, etc.. in general the disintegration of social/support networks places more weight onto the nuclear family, which is a fairly new and brittle structure.

extended families living together under one roof tends to happen the world over tbh, but if they're not under one roof there's at least enough proximity that the broader family/community can take some of the pressure off the couple. this isn't really possible the way things work now, because communities are too impersonal and their members too transient, and that kind of group parenting requires high trust. again, on top of the weird urge to disengage entirely from family (which manifests also e.g. in boomers dumping their parents in care homes and forgetting about them).

tl;dr the dominance of transactional relationships fucks everyone and everything up, it's a maladaptive strategy for coping with mass society, and dropping out of relationship with women in spiteful protest won't solve it
