Go ahead and piss off the feminist fat acceptance idiots. I've been telling them, "No, not all women are beautiful. Some women are while others are plain and while still others are ugly. You cannot simultaneously be obese and beautiful. If you're obese, you're both unhealthy and ugly." This issue comes up a lot on /r/fatlogic. Unfortunately, a lot of people there cannot accept that there exist sex differences which reflect badly on women.

Anyway, a big part of it is that men have a much stronger tendency to take responsibility for their problems. So that a man who is fat will probably either accept that he eats too much and is less healthy and attractive as a result; or he will go on a diet and start hitting the gym. As opposed to blaming society for his obesity and insisting that the whole world be turned upside down to accommodate him.

The other problem is that women are more prone to the sort of sloppy thinking and self-deception which leads to weight gain and failed diets. If a person claims that they eat only 1200 calories a day but still can't lose weight 90% of the time it's a woman.

By the way, I think that the obesity problem is a good deal worse among women than among men. This is obscured by the decision to equalize the BMI cutoffs for men and women and/or reliance on self-reporting of weight in a lot of studies.
